Here we are again, at the bottom of the barrel. Pizzeria Dante slops around with the worst pizzerias known to this blog: Pizzeria Nuti, Alla Corte dei Tre and Antica Porta. They're all at about the same level of NON-edibility. Here, the tiresome list: questionable mozzarella, too much disgusting-tasting tomato sauce, a thin crust with burnt spots. The worst part at Dante's was the porcini, squishy slugs that tasted of nothing but water. Aww, sick!

Mi fermo all'aspetto visivo, assaggiarlo è stato peggio, indescrivibile.

Take a gander at the pizza's photo, and then refer to the reviews of Re Matto, Antica Porta and Antica Pizzeria Nuti - pizzerias in the same league as Alla Corte dei Tre, all offering a thin-crust Margherita topped with the infamous vomit-swirl of a sickeningly bland tomato sauce and a cheese of ambiguous character.

Che soddisfazione all'ultimo boccone però.

With happy thoughts (and hummings) of Marco Mengoni, I entered Re Matto hungry for a pizza fit for a king! And if you like to dine on pizzas similar to those found at Antica Pizzeria Nuti (which scored 1.5/10 pizzas for me) or Antica Porta (3/10 pizzas), you would have been most satisfied with the pizza (of, I think, the same category but of higher quality) placed before you by the staff that treats you - in an almost embarrassing way - like you're somebody important. The crust was extremely thin and crunchy and would have been perfect, had there not been the burnt spots every now and again. What put this pizza in the same line-up as those mentioned above was, in addition to the thin crust, the fluidity between the tomato sauce and the cheese; I couldn't tell where one ended and the other began. I prefer a pizza with a distinct division between the two. Not only does a mix of this kind look unappetizing, but it seems to dissolve any sort of flavor the two ingredients once had. Eating at Re Matto was perfunctory, joyless. If I were king, and this were the best pizza I could get, I'm sure I would go mad.

If you like the pizza at Nuti's in San Lorenzo, you'll absolutely die for the pizza at Antica Porta. It's the exact same pizza in look (except for the addition of some basil leaves) and in flavor. The crust is super thin, crunchy and yummy...and then the nasty cheese (please don't even try to say this is mozzarella!) takes over and ruins the entire pizza. Too bad!

E invece... pizza-sottiletta in arrivo!

Congratulations Nuti, you've earned my vote for the ugliest pizza ever! Sarcasm aside, when it came to the taste, it wasn't so horribly disgusting that I couldn't choke it down. The crunchy crust was actually very good. The tomato sauce, average. It was the cheese that straight-up flunked. It was definitely NOT mozzarella, and seemed to be expired shreds of...monterey jack and cheddar?!? Not befitting an Italian pizzeria (especially one claiming to be the oldest in Florence), barely sufficient for a train station dumpster.
