Everyone turned and stared as we walked in, so either we are way better-looking (or way worse-looking) than we thought we were, or this is a strictly neighborhood joint that doesn't see many outsiders. The place was small and packed, so it was a little awkward. But, we got over it pretty quickly and ordered our pizzas. My Castruccio (sausage, black olives, onions, mushrooms, and parmesan), with its tangle of purple worms atop, had quite the unappetizing look to it...but part of it was because I was expecting onions like the ones on American pizzas, which are usually white and diced in perfect rectangles. Despite its appearance, the mixture of ingredients had a non-surprisingly great flavor. The crust was thin, only crunchy on the rim, and had (contrary to Fabio's appraisement) a nice salty flavor. If I lived next door, you could bet I'd be there every week.

FABIO: 5/10

Via Giotto, 2
50018 Scandicci (FI)
Tel. 055 2591362

Prezzo: Groupon 19 Euro
1 Pizza Stracco
1 Pizza Capricciosa
2 Coca-Cola in Lattina

ANNIE: 5/10
If only there were a positive correlation between staff friendliness and pizza scrumptiousness, La Lanterna would most probably be the highest-voted pizzeria in Florence! It's one of those places where you really do feel like you're eating at a friend's house. The TV was on, everyone was laughing together, and our waiter made his way around to all the tables for a chat; he told me about his trip to New York and asked what it's like in Missouri, and he and Fabio talked about soccer and his family's hotdog stand. I wish I had as much to say about the pizza, but...I ordered the Stracco: stracchino, sausage and mozzarella atop tomato sauce. It was a thin-crusted pizza, burnt around the edges with not much sausage, nothing exciting or out-of-this-world delicious. It was a typical frozen-pizza night with the fam.

FABIO: 5.5/10
gentile. Purtroppo appartengo all'altro genere.
