Thinking we had perhaps found a cozy, hidden gem in a side alley, I was flabbergasted to discover Finisterrae not only has an interior garden and several rooms, but also an extra entrance in Piazza Santa Croce. Thank goodness the pricing is more fitting for its discreet entrance on Via dei Pepi, than for its flamboyant terrace-seating in the square! Unfortunately, Finisterrae's pizza reflects more the experience-seeking tourist than the quality-seeking resident (or pizza critic). A prominent differentiating feature between American and Italian pizzas is...the juice. Good Italian pizzas are always a bit on the sloshy (not to be confused with greasy!) side. And I have to say I slightly panicked when I cut into this pizza and there were absolutely no signs of moisture. Even the tomato sauce looked like it was dehydrating on the burnt crust. Other panic points: over-salted crust, super-powerful and disgusting tomato sauce, strangely thick and dry "mozzarella", and numerous burnt spots throughout. I don't think I've ever seen Fabio NOT finish a pizza. So, there you go. Cute place though.

FABIO: 3/10
